“Building Concentration and Language with Montessori Halloween Crafts”

10月の週末おうち英語クラスでは、ハロウィンをテーマにしたモンテッソーリクラフトを行いました👻
今月のキーワードは「つまむ」「入れる」「落とす」。
一見シンプルな動きですが、モンテッソーリ教育では手の発達と集中力を育てるとても大切な要素です。
子どもは“自分の手でできた”という感覚を繰り返すことで、自信と主体性を育んでいきます。

🧺とおす動作で集中力を育てる

2歳さんから両手の使い方の発達がずいぶん安定してきます。

挑戦したのは、穴の空いた紙皿やハロウィンのペーパープレートに紐を“とおす”アクティビティ。

穴に通せたふと感じる達成感と安心感、通した後の「シュー♪」という感覚、

子どもたちの表情がぱっと輝きます。
“We did it!” “Let’s try again!” など、英語でのやりとりを通して

「うまくいかなくても大丈夫」というモンテッソーリの温かい考え方を感じられる時間になりました。

👻つまむ・入れる・落とす動作で「できた！」の喜びを

0歳さんのアクティビティは、

カラフルなスパンコールをキッチンペーパーの筒に

’入れる’お仕事。
指先を使うことで「目と手の協応（eye-hand coordination）」が発達します。

英語の声かけは “Pick up the ghost!” “Put it in the pumpkin!”。
ひとつひとつの動きに英語を添えることで、

自然にことばと動作が結びつき、子どもたちは英語を“体で覚える”体験をしていきます。

物を口に入れてしまいそうなお子様はルーピングのおもちゃで”協応”を養い、

仕掛けがわかるようになったり、口に入れるよりも他の動作に興味が持てると

少しずつベビちゃん期から幼児の姿が見えてきそうな瞬間があります。。😢

Weekend Home English Class in October: Halloween Montessori Crafts 👻

This month, our theme was Halloween, and we focused on Montessori crafts. The keywords were “pick up,” “put in,” and “drop.”

At first glance, these movements might seem simple, but in Montessori education, they are essential for developing hand skills and concentration. By repeating the experience of “I did it myself!”, children build confidence and a sense of independence.

🧺 Using threading to build concentration

By around age 2, children’s use of both hands becomes much more coordinated.

For this activity, we used paper plates with holes and Halloween-themed paper plates, and the children threaded strings through the holes.

The small moments of success and satisfaction when they manage to thread a string, along with the gentle “swish” sound as it goes through, make their faces light up.

With simple English phrases like
“We did it!”
“Let’s try again!”

children also experience the warm Montessori philosophy: “It’s okay if it doesn’t work the first time.”

👻 “Pick up, put in, drop” – celebrating “I did it!”

For our 0-year-olds, we offered an activity where they put colorful sequins into a kitchen-paper tube.

Using their fingers in this way helps develop eye-hand coordination.

We added English cues like:
“Pick up the ghost!”
“Put it in the pumpkin!”

By pairing language with action, children naturally begin to learn English through movement.

For little ones who might put things in their mouths, we provided looping toys to practice coordination.

As they figure out the mechanism and become more interested in moving objects rather than mouthing them, you can start seeing the beginnings of toddler skills even during the baby stage. 😢
